Apart from me, of course!
I wanted to put together a list of my favourite crochet pattern designers and I was going to do a top 5.
So, I looked at my list designers that I have bookmarked.
And then I tried to narrow it down to 5.
Reader, I failed!
Miserably.
Ever the flexible thinker, I decided to make it another series of posts where I will share with you designers that I absolutely love. This might be because of the range of items they have patterns for, or they might be a specialist in an area, or it might just be that I like the way they write their patterns.
So, join me, if you will, as I give you the first 5 of my favourite crochet designers (note – this is no particular order and they’re from all over the world – not just UK based).
- TL Yarn Crafts: behind this brand is US designer Toni Lipsey. You have probably come across her and her designs already as not only is she massively popular, but she has become a go-to for all things Tunisian crochet. Now, this isn’t to say that Tunisian crochet is all Toni does – far from it. She does everything. Toni has an excellent range of both free and paid patterns on her site and also has a fantastic YouTube channel.
- Make & Do Crew: Jess Coppom is the face behind the Make & Do Crew and is another all-round designer, but I love her for her cardigan designs. The hexagon cardigan I posted about recently is one of Jess’ patterns which was an absolute joy to make.
- Dora Does: On this site you will find the most amazingly useful in-depth posts about all aspects of crochet as well as a range of gorgeous patterns. In fact, I’ve mentioned the awesomeness that is Dora Does in a previous post looking at the art of blocking. Trust me when I say, if you have even a slight interest in the craft of crochet, subscribe to the Dora Does WIP Tip emails – they’re invaluable.
- HanJan: Hannah is another all-round designer that I love and I’ve made several of her clothing designs, including the Hawthorne tee which you can see me “modelling” in this post.
- MJ’s Off the Hook Designs: Michelle is another designer that you may well have come across on your travels. She is a very talented designer with lots of practical and beautiful patterns on her site. Again, I have made many of her designs but I tend to go to her first for mosaic crochet as she has recently produced several designs using this technique – she makes quite a tricky, yet compulsive, method of crochet seem ridiculously easy.
And that’s the first 5 of my favourite designers! I hope you will get to know some new faces through this and the upcoming posts in this series.
Who would you recommend to other crocheters?
