WoollyWondersByJo is owned by me, Jo and is driven by my love of crochet, both making it and teaching others how to do it.
WoollywondersbyJo is here to bring the joy of crochet to you. This might be in being there to guide you through the process of learning to crochet. Or it might be by giving you new designs and inspirations through my patterns and tutorials. Or it might be through purchasing a piece of my crochet work.
All of my creations are inspired by my surroundings in South Wales. I’m originally from Nottingham, but have lived in Wales for 20 years and have fully embraced the Welsh art of the cwtch, which runs through everything I make.
I have crocheted since I was about 8 years old and now, in my middle age, I love it more than ever. I cannot imagine not having some piece of crochet, big or small, to work on!
I have depression and anxiety and the act of crochet brings me comfort and helps my mental health immeasurably.
It is almost like meditation – not only do I have a clearer head, but I might have a new jumper as well! The finished items give me such happiness, especially when I get sent pictures from happy customers, whether they are made by me or by someone I have helped to learn.
About 6 years ago, I decided to start selling the items I was making and chose to do this through an Etsy shop while still working full-time. But over that time, I have changed and the role that I would like crochet to play in my life has also changed.
In 2022, WoollyWondersByJo became my only focus and I decided to move into pattern designing
and published my first pattern, launched my YouTube channel, and set up my Learn to Crochet
Facebook group.
2022 was also the year that I started attending a variety of craft fairs, all around South Wales, which I loved! Meeting people and chatting about all things crochet definitely fills in the gaps created by working on my own.
It was also at these markets, the idea of developing workshops and courses sprang up and became one of my main aims in 2023. I want to bring crochet and the joy it brings to as many people as possible.
