Crafting Among Friends - Craft Club

Make is a powerful word.

It implies creation, something being brought into existence, a physical and tangible thing.

But it can also relate to the making of something intangible: friendships and connections.

See?

Powerful stuff 🙋

When I crochet, I take yarn and a hook and from them, I can make a limitless array of creations.

The only limit is my imagination.

A collage of photos showing people crafting together

Taking raw materials and transforming them into something else is pretty magical 🧙

That’s the tangible side.

How about the intangible?

I have talked a lot here and on social media, about the importance of crochet to my mental health.

Making anything is an act of defiance in a world of fast fashion and even faster throwing away.

It is also an act of focus. Of concentration.

Of shutting out the unnecessary and focusing on the necessary.

Of quieting the inner negativity. The inner critic. The inner over-thinker.

It allows you to just BE.

And then you get to make something fancy and cool!

Win

Win.

There is only one thing that could possibly improve the art of making.

And that is being with a group of like-minded makers and crafters.

Whatever the craft, whatever the gender, age, background, etc, a place where you are welcomed.

This is what I want to make.

A place for fellow crafters and makers in my local area to meet every week for 2 hours.

A place where there is no judgment, only acceptance.

A place where you can talk to others and make new friends.

Or sit quietly and just enjoy the atmosphere.

Tuesdays – 5pm – 7pm

And the atmosphere is something special at Bethel Chapel Cafe in Pontrhydyfen (not far from Neath and Port Talbot).

It is an old chapel, converted into the most serene Cafe, with a library and big, comfy sofas.

And the VIEWS!

It is the perfect location for a group of creative people to meet and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and a delicious slice of cake.

Thursday 12pm – 2pm

The atmosphere at The Art Space in Port Talbot is very different from Bethel Chapel, but no less welcoming and perfectly suited to crafting.

The Art Space is fully accessible for everyone to attend and the Tuck Shop serves drinks and snacks.
