Been Doing Some App Testing!

A couple of weeks ago, I signed up to be a beta tester for a new crochet app and I was over the moon when I was notified that I had been chosen. Crochet is often overlooked in favour of its more popular relation, knitting, so I do tend to get quite excited when we get new toys to play with.

The app in question is called ‘Crochet Studio‘ and its aim is to provide a range of tools we can use to create all sorts of crocheted items, including colour inspiration, patterns from established designers from around the world and the ability to choose colours and yarns which you can then develop into a pattern downloadable as a PDF file.

I have been testing out some of the features but the one that is my current favourite is the palette and collage generator. What makes this so fun is that you choose a photo from your phone, decide on how many colours of yarn you want to work with (choice of 4-8) and it will create a pallet of yarns for you! You can refine your choice even more by selecting a brand of yarn and a specific item, such as DK or aran weight. It is so good.

Here are two palettes I made including one based on the new banner I’ll be using at craft fayres (photo on the left using Stylecraft Special DK shades) which I’m going to use to create some bunting for my stall! The photo on the right was one I took of a hydrangea in my garden and I chose Paintbox Yarns cotton aran.

The even better thing is that, once the palette has been created, you can then edit it further until you’re happy with the choices. This is what I did with the picture on the left. I felt that the colours it originally gave me weren’t quite right, so I took out a white and a blue and added in pale pink and purple.

The beta testing has now been expanded and the app is available to download through the Crochet Studio website and will soon be available to everyone on Android and Apple.

I have a feeling that this going to get bigger and better as it is tested and developed further and I wish them all the best with it.

I’d love to see any palettes and collages you create and share them with the app designers on Instagram too!
