Bathroom Edit

I started a series of posts in which I wanted to share some ideas of how crocheted, knitted and other woolly items can be used in the home; specifically my home.

In the first post, I looked at how I have used my crocheted items in the kitchen.

Today, it’s the turn of the bathroom.

As you can imagine there are some uses that are more obvious than others – for example, I use my handmade facecloths and shower puffs all the time, week in, week out. They’re all made from 100% cotton yarn and last for ages. And the weirdest thing is that the more you wash them, the better they are!

But how does this fit in with interior design? Easy. It’s all in the textures and the colour schemes. All of my facecloths and shower puffs coordinate with my towel sets, which is easy to do with the yarn linked above as they have a massive colour range for you to choose from.

Simple.

As.

That.

Getting on to something that is much more in the area of interior design, the ever-trusty crocheted plant pot cover. And this one is gorgeous.

Again, this is made by me and follows a pattern of my own design, which is a very simple stitch and construction method.

But simple doesn’t equal unpleasing to the eye.

In fact, the opposite is true with this plant pot cover.

And it’s all down to the yarn I used as it complimented the stitch perfectly.

It was made using two different yarns – Scheepjes Secret Garden and a simple double-knit yarn in a matching shade of green.

Again, the colours were chosen to follow the rest of the colour scheme in the bathroom and it gives a lovely little pop of colour from under the plant’s leaves.

I also love how the structure of the stitch and the texture of the yarn work together to give the cover the feel of a woven basket.

And last but not least, this beauty – a mixture of crochet and macrame.

This was my first-ever adventure into the world of macrame so the pattern I used was very simple and used to create the hanging ‘ropes’ that connect the wall to the driftwood to the actual plant hanger.

The plant holder itself is crocheted using a simple rectangular version of the holder used above, using the same 100% cotton yarn used to make the facecloths and shower puffs.

Here, I have a little confession to make. Originally, there were 5 real plants in this, but because the room is quite dark, they didn’t do very well and had to be moved. So, these are actually fake plants from Ikea!

Oh, and the driftwood was collected from the beautiful Porthcawl seafront in South Wales.
