I love a good pompom.

There is something very satisfying about making one yourself especially once you have finished wrapping the yarn around the pompom maker and you start to cut around. All the ends spring up and they’re just so tactile and fluffy.

And making your own pompom just finishes off a hat to perfection. Especially a lovely crocheted hat! And here’s one I made earlier and, luckily, as I was about to make the pompom, I actually remembered to film it for a quick, how-to video. Yay me!

My main tip is not to worry about making the “perfect” pompom as that’s impossible – there will always be the little sticky-out bits here and there.

You can make all sorts of things then – wreaths, wall art and even floor rugs!

All you will need to make a pompom is:

Pompoms are a joy to make so give into your inner child and get making!
